Meet the Candidates

Picture
Michaela Brooke (she/her)
Marquette Class of 2023
Running for: President
  • "I want to run for President of Hillel Milwaukee's Student Board because I have been dedicated to my Hillel community ever since the first day of my Freshman year. For the past three years, Hillel has provided me with a comfortable and holy space in which I have grown as a Jew, as a leader, and as a person."
  • "I have served on the Student Board twice now as the Jewish Life and Learning Chair which has allowed me to explore who I am as a Jewish leader and as a member of this sacred community. I believe my experience in Hillel leadership and my passion for strengthening my Jewish community have equipped me with the skills I need to serve as a strong, compassionate, and thoughtful President."
  • "As Student Board President, I hope to embody the spirit of Hillel Milwaukee by passionately representing the interests of the students and the larger Hillel community and serving as a leader, a helping hand, and a friend to all. I plan on accomplishing this by collaborating with and supporting my fellow student board members in their roles, listening to the members of the Hillel community and advocating for their needs and desires, and providing vision and direction to students planning and developing programming."
  • "Most of all I want to keep being an active participant at Hillel, a cheerleader to my friends and to new leaders who come after me, and an enthusiastic and dedicated member of our kehillah kedosha - our holy community."

Matty Powell (she/they)
UWM Class of 2022
Running for: Outreach Chair
  • "I want to help build up the student community at Hillel MIlwaukee by keeping students informed and connected to one another. I think Hillel Milwaukee has really grown as an organization, but I want our connections to outside organizations to be strong too."

Jane Blossom (she/her)
Marquette Class of 2025
Running for: Jewish Life & Learning Chair
  • "I'm an excellent communicator, well-organized, always have a positive attitude, motivated, a proactive problem solver, and a very energetic team player. This position would challenge me to communicate with a variety of people to come up with not only a Shabbat calendar but also work with the Ezra Fellow to help lead Jewish learning programs."
  • "One of my goals is to understand the Torah and Judaism as a whole while making it a fun and interactive experience for others. If I were to be elected into this position I would want to make sure that Shabbat is engaging for everyone."

Travis Lehman (he/him)
UWM Class of 2023
Running for: Israel Chair
  • "I enjoy being a part of the Hillel Jewish community and want to take a larger role in the programs and the way it functions. My main goal is to help teach people about Israel and why it is important to our community."

Devora (Dilli) Kittner (she/her)
Mount Mary Class of 2024
Running for: Tikkun Olam/Social Justice Chair
  • "Since joining Hillel, I've felt so comfortable in my Judaism. I feel like I've found my community here and have even made friends who share my same passion for Judaism. Being able to connect with other Jewish college students from a variety of backgrounds is something I find incredibly enjoyable and educational."
  • "Being a part of the Hillel Milwaukee Student Board will give me the opportunity to get even more involved as well as help others get involved."
  • "My main goal is to create events where Jewish college students can feel safe and comfortable sharing their thoughts on Judaism without the worry of being judged."
  • "Another major goal I hope to achieve is to educate college students about all sorts of topics in Judaism such as tikkun olam, kabbalah, traditions, etc. I also hope to spread the word about Hillel to Jewish students who may not have heard of it so that they can have a Jewish community to be a part of."
